If you are looking for a low impact workout that will help you lose weight, is a great cardio workout, and will increase strength then you need not look farther than your nearest swimming pool. Swimming is one of the absolutely best workouts one can do as it is a full body workout that will tone your muscles. Before starting swimming make sure you properly know how to do all the basic swimming strokes as well as buy a pair of goggles to keep water out of your eyes.
If you are a beginner swimmer then aim for a total of 400 meters, as this is a good beginner swimming workout. You will always want to stretch afterwards as well as warm up before to protect your shoulders from any unnecessary injuries.
Here is the Beginner Swimming Workout:
Warmup for 50 meters, swimming nice and slowly – breast stroke.
100 meters – Front crawl
100 meters – Back stroke
100 meters – Front crawl
50 meters – Breast stroke
Stretch
This looks easy, but if you are just starting to swim, this is one hard swimming workout.
Try doing this workout 5 times a week to start seeing weight loss results. Once this workout routine gets easier (as it will because you will be in better shape) try increasing the pace you are swimming at. After 3 months, try doubling the amount you swim in distance, just repeating the workout order again.
Remember to eat well afterwards as you will be hungry, try aiming for a tuna sandwich on whole wheat bread with a piece of fruit and some water, this will better help you recover and is a really healthy post swimming workout meal. Swimming alone will not help you lose weight but when combined with a proper diet plan, you will start seeing some great fat loss results.
