Everyone loves the holidays, whether it’s a huge thanksgiving turkey, a Christmas ham, Halloween candies, Easter fish, or New Year’s dinner with tons of alcohol and cheer, everyone loves what the holidays represent, but we all dread gaining weight over the holidays. No worries, you can stop holiday weight loss with some quick holiday diet tips to keep you from becoming fat over the holidays.

One of the best ways to make sure you don’t gain too much weight during the holiday season is to increase the amount of physical exercise you do as you will have more time to workout and thus burn those extra calories you are eating. Go for walks, to the gym, swim or take the dog out for a nice jog, do anything to get exercise as something is always better than nothing.

If you are sitting at the table ready to dive in to a holiday feast then make sure you are making the right diet choices, try choosing white meat over dark meat, avoid the gravy and cranberry sauce, eat more salad and steamed veggies, avoid drinking soft drinks and stick to water as well as drink two huge glasses of water 10 minutes before you eat to fill you up. If you are going for desert, try taking 1/3rd of the regular portion and wait 15 minutes before having more as it takes this much time for you to feel the chemicals from your brain telling you that you are full.

If you are looking for some fun family activities to do this holiday season, always try picking activities that involve some form of physical activity, no matter what they are, try bowling, sledding, skiing, skating, flag football or ultimate Frisbee as they are great ways to get the blood flowing while burning calories at the same time.

Alcohol gram for gram has the same amount of calories as fat, this makes drinking alcoholic beverages a really serious factor in holiday weight gain, Try avoiding the booze altogether and drink water, soda water with lemon or diet soda to avoid consuming a ton of unnecessary calories. One of the drinks with the highest caloric value is eggnog, so if you insist on drinking some eggnog, then try to drink only a little as eggnog will make you gain some serious weight.

If you follow these diet tips you will be sure to not break your diet plan and keep on losing weight this holiday season, the choice is always yours.
