If you live in a country where there is a harsh winter then you probably know that it’s quite hard get out and workout as the cold can drive a person insane. The good news is that with a few winter workout strategies, you can lose weight in the winter and feel great during those dreary months of snow.

If you are looking for a fun workout that can be done during the winter months, then try playing ice hockey as it is an amazing fitness experience that will burn calories and get you into to some serious shape. Fitness experts’ claim that playing an hour of ice hockey can burn up to 800 calories, this may be even more depending how cold it is outside (the colder it is, the more calories will be spent. If ice hockey isn’t your cup of tea, then try regular ice skating as it is also a great calorie burning exercise that will tone your legs and butt.

Another great winter workout is skiing, as skiing is a great workout that includes low intensity cardio and high intensity cardio (depending on the types of runs you ski on). When skiing make sure you always go on the ski runs that you can handle as going on more advanced runs can be quite hazardous. If you can’t see yourself skiing, then give snowboarding a try, snowboarding is a great workout and an awesome winter lifestyle as you will meet many new people and have a fun workout together on the slopes.

Probably one of the best cardio workouts that you can get is cross-country skiing, as it is a full body workout using all your muscle groups. The benefit of a cross country skiing workout is that you can do it anywhere, all you need is a pair of cross country skis and you are on your way to losing weight. Make sure when you go out for a good skiing afternoon you know exactly where you are going as people can get lost when cross country skiing and you don’t want to be lost in the middle of nowhere during the winter months.

There are 3 things you need to remember before starting to workout in the winter, the first being that you always wear the proper clothes as not to get too cold and freeze, the second being always making sure you are hydrated as contrary to popular belief you still sweat and can easily become hydrated exercising outside, and third is to eat well before as a person generally burns more calories in the winter (due to the fact your body is trying to maintain its core temperature) then in summer months.

It is possible to workout during the winter, take advantage of these winter exercises as they burn fat, will help you gain muscle and lose weight.
