Getting a good night sleep is one of the healthiest things you can do, but some of us have a really hard time getting to sleep at night.
If you are having a hard time getting to sleep you will be happy to hear that certain foods have the ability to help you get to sleep quickly.
You should try eating these foods as they will really help you get some shut eye and they are also really healthy too. Generally, you should fall asleep when you body releases the hormones melatonin and serotonin to let you know it needs rest to recover from a hard day, many of the following foods will help release these sleeping hormones as well as even help you relax from a hard day.


One of the most famous sleeping foods is chamomile tea, a long treasured secret of many wives this tea has the ability to really bring you into a state of total relaxation. Mix this tea with some warm milk and you have one of the best sleeping recipes around. Warm milk is full of the amino acid tryptophan which has the effect of placing you into an intense state of relaxation.


One of the best sleep aid meals is oatmeal with almonds, flaxseed and honey as they all have special abilities to relax the body. Almonds contain a good amount of magnesium, which has been shown to be an amazing muscle relaxant, flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids which help release serotonin, oatmeal is a good natural source of sleep inducing melatonin and honey helps your brain exit its state of alertness.

If you want to add another great food to help with sleep problems try adding a banana as they are full of tryptophan and magnesium which will help you totally relax and get to sleep.


A great way to make sure you get to sleep on top of a diet program is to get more physical activity throughout the day as this will cause you to exert a lot of excess energy that may be causing you to lose some sleep at night. Try exercising in the morning for the best weight loss and health benefits and make sure to workout 4 o 5 times a week in order to get better sleeping patterns at night.
